Junior Mints Peppermint Crunch

One of my favorite spots to pick up limited edition candy in Utah is at the BYU Bookstore. They have a fantastic candy shop, especially the homemade fudge and chocolate covered cinnamon bears. I find all sorts of cool stuff every time I happen to be on the Y's campus. I picked up a box of Junior Mints Peppermint Crunch for $1.59, interested on the holiday twist of my favorite movie theater candy.

The box is red and white, with muted peppermint disc swirls and red speckled mints. The box is 4 oz, which is slightly smaller than the 4.75 oz movie theater box. The aroma is pleasantly minty upon breaking the seal. Each mint disc is very lightly speckled with red and white peppermint candy dots, and the chocolate sheen isn't quite as shiny as the original. The texture of the bite is almost identical to an original Junior Mint, with a gritty edge once chewed in my molars. It's not significantly more minty, despite the peppermint candy flecks.

I enjoyed the box over a few days, as well as a box of original JM's. I prefer the original, just barely (mostly because I can get a larger box for about half the price, and each candy disc is noticeably larger. The fondant in the peppermint crunch isn't as smooth and gooey as the original, which is my favorite part.

All in all, it was an enjoyable holiday treat. I won't miss it in the summer, but might pick up a box again next year.

Nicole Rates It...6.5/10
